Our history parallels the history of the Six Boxes Model. From the earliest days of our corporate consulting work, the underlying principles of the Six Boxes, derived from our mentors, B.F. Skinner and Thomas F. Gilbert, drove our work in performance management and performance design. Additional influences were Joe Harless, Robert Horn, Aubrey Daniels and other thought leaders in the field of Human Performance Technology.

Over time, devoted to making practical, effective methods available to our clients, we have focused on using plain English, communicating clearly, providing tools that make sense, and remaining true to our roots in scientific research. At the same time, our combined experience in a dozen industries at multiple levels (both inside and as external consultants) has served as the reality check for what works.

The Six Boxes Model represents a culmination of more than two decades of work with growing understanding about the variables that drive performance and how busy people in fast-paced organizations can learn to manage them.

Dr. Carl Binder began his career as a graduate research fellow at Harvard University and was Associate Director of a human behavior research laboratory and classroom for ten years before entering the corporate world. Founder of three consulting firms, a thought leader in the International Association for Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), he is a widely requested speaker and prolific author in fields that include human learning and performance, sales and marketing, customer service, educational policy, performance measurement, and behavioral research. He is a Certified Performance Technologist who has worked with scores of organizations in a dozen industries, as well as schools and other human services and not-for-profit organizations.

Cynthia Riha has more than 20 years of business development, marketing and management experience from diverse industries, including transportation, hospitality, telecommunications, manufacturing/engineering, and aerospace. She has been a top sales producer, sales manager, business development strategist, entrepreneur and business development consultant. Most recently she served as VP of Marketing in a telecommunications startup, successfully coordinating the effort to raise venture capital and position the company in a rapidly changing marketplace. Her business acumen combined with excellent communication and analysis skills enable her to offer our research-based methods the experience and perspective of a seasoned business executive.
